Marinated Tofu

by lifethehollywayupdated on June 19, 2020June 19, 20201 Comment on Marinated Tofu

My husband loves this marinaded tofu. I have heard similar recipes called ‘tofu bacon’ but, having never eaten bacon myself, I cannot claim its similarity. All I know is that it’s delicious and easy to make so I highly recommend you give it a try. 1 pack of firm tofu (not silken tofu as it’s …

How to Have a Zero Waste Period

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 25, 2020May 25, 2020Leave a Comment on How to Have a Zero Waste Period

When it comes to periods, there is a lot to deal with: from managing cramps, mood swings and skin breakouts to low energy and food cravings. It can be difficult to have a spare thought for what happens to our period products when we’re finished with them. One person uses approximately 11,000 disposable pads and …

Vegan Kimchi Stir Fry

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 10, 2020May 8, 2020Leave a Comment on Vegan Kimchi Stir Fry

Last week I happily received a fresh batch of kimchi from my Mum. She made it using this Happy Pear recipe and it’s absolutely delicious. Kimchi is great for your digestion and has a load of health benefits. I used Mum’s kimchi to make this easy stir fry based loosely on a Korean Kimchi Udon …

Easy Vegan Dahl

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 10, 2020May 8, 2020Leave a Comment on Easy Vegan Dahl

I have a notebook that I’ve used as a handwritten recipe book since I moved away from home at 18. I asked my Mum for our favourite recipes and copied them from her cookbook collection, making adaptations as I went along as my Mum never makes anything exactly as the recipe states. In this book …

Vegan Anniversary!

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 10, 2020December 20, 2018Leave a Comment on Vegan Anniversary!

This time last year I was gearing up to attempt Veganuary 2018. My Mum had become vegan in the Summer of 2017 so we had already had lots of fun experimenting with recipes for vegan cheese sauce, snacks and desserts. I had been a life-long vegetarian and knew that a vegan lifestyle was possible but …

Visible Mending – Boro Sashiko Jeans

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 10, 2020December 14, 2018Leave a Comment on Visible Mending – Boro Sashiko Jeans

I get through jeans at an alarming rate. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I spend (although the most I’ve ever spent is £40 and they stretched out quicker than any of them). I think I’m a naturally messy person. I suppose it comes from ‘doing things’: I get grass stains from sitting outside, …

Slowing Down at Chateau Montfreville

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 5, 2020September 15, 2018Leave a Comment on Slowing Down at Chateau Montfreville

As much as I love a European city break, camping is where it’s at for me right now. Longer term readers will know that I am fairly obsessed with camping at West Dean Chilli Fiesta (Summer round-up to follow). This year we extended our UK camping weekend into a French camping week and I don’t mean …

Mexican Tortilla Bowls

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 10, 2020September 14, 2018Leave a Comment on Mexican Tortilla Bowls

Sometimes you have to take a cold hard look in the fridge and realise that this week you shopped for no recipes. You picked up the usual weekly stuff (bread, crisps, salad, hummus) and the odd impulsive item (chocolate soya milk, raspberries, agave syrup) but during the week you go through the kitchen to realise …

Positive Procrastination: Crocheting Plarn

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 5, 2020August 9, 20182 Comments on Positive Procrastination: Crocheting Plarn

I always have a project or two lined up. Next up is crocheting plarn. Plarn (plastic yarn) can be made from old plastic food bags and used to crochet things like little pot cosies and baskets. This aim has a few prerequisites: that I can make plarn and that I can crochet. I can, at …

Adrienne Mishler’s Yoga Mat Spray

by lifethehollywayupdated on May 5, 2020July 1, 20186 Comments on Adrienne Mishler’s Yoga Mat Spray

As part of a self-care themed day off work I decided to have a go at making Adrienne Mishler’s Yoga Mat Spray. If you haven’t yet seen any of Adrienne’s Yoga with Adrienne videos I urge you to ditch this blog right now and watch one. But please come back. I need the external gratification of …

  • It’s been a very long time since I read a whole book in one day! I started reading A Christmas Carol in the bath yesterday morning and finished it in bed last night. It was so lovely to relax in a bathtub! We’ve just moved house (at the end of November) to an old house with a bath! Having only had a shower in the house for the past 8 years, I’ve been looking forward to luxurious baths for ages. I got lots of lovely bath-related presents for Christmas, including this gorgeous smelling jar of handmade grapefruit, calendula and rosemary bath salts from my mum.
Are you a bath person?
  • I hope you’ve all managed to have the best Christmas Day you could. It’s been a weird one but we’ve managed to make the most of it. Sending out lots of love to all who may need it. This amazing cocktail was made by my mum from the December issue of @simplethingsmag and it was Christmas in a glass.
  • It’s moving day! (Moving day 2 of probably 100...) Packing up our plants to move to their new home. I hope they like it!
We’re trying to pack in as eco-friendly a way as possible, reusing lots of paper packaging and boxes.
  • Time for a little bit of comfort reading. What are you reading at the moment? Do you have a comfort book? Or something you always read at this time of year?
  • Selling some vintage and second hand pieces on Depop to clear a bit of space before we move house! Floral dresses, vintage dresses, vintage scarves and a few other bits 😊💚
  • Pocketed a little bit of beach little this week including this ‘please recycle me’ bottle lid. Well I did recycle it but not before it washed up on a beach in Felpham along with a pen lid and a mini radio of all things!
  • Autumn is well and truly here and I’m matching my outfits to the seaweed found on our beach walk on this perfect weekend. Now I need to find out how to dry and press seaweed. I’d love this hanging in a little frame in our bathroom in our new house! It’s the simple things 🙂
  • It’s the end of #secondhandseptember already! I hope you’ve managed to enjoy the clothes already in your wardrobe or found some joy on eBay, in charity shops or other second hand spots. This peanut butter jumper was a car boot sale bargain a year (or two?) ago and it’s come out of hibernation now the weather has turned.
I love finding second hand treasures so much more than buying new - it’s usually cheaper, the stuff is more unusual, it’s better for the environment and there’s the thrill of finding treasure! I’ve only bought 3 new things in the last 2 years - my wedding dress, a charity tshirt and an amazing pair of @lucyandyak dungarees. All the purchases were thought about for months before I eventually bought them because it’s not just a habit any more.
What have you picked up recently that you love?
  • This beautiful cake was made for my birthday by my lovely mum @teresamary56 💚 It’s decorated with home grown dahlias and was almost too pretty to eat! It’s from @ainecarlin ‘a fabulous book Keep it Vegan. We’ve made it several times and it’s always wonderful (as are all the recipes in all 3 of Aine’s books). This weekend of family and food was exactly what I needed for my birthday.
  • Good morning!
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about social media and it’s role in our lives, the positives and negatives. I love Instagram for the sense of community, finding people with similar interests and passions and for inspiration. I don’t love it for the mindless scrolling, the time wasting, the capitalist advertising and the comparisons. I hope no one is comparing themselves to me and feeling bad. We all put our highlights up here. This highlight is a picture of me having a good hair day. There’s good lighting and I’ve edited it to be warmer toned. It’s a highlight! But there are also bad days, grumpy days, bad hair days, bad skin days, sad days, angry days and bored days. You can see in the back of this photo that the house is a mess!
On this page I like to put the nice things I do, eco friendly or vegan products I like, sustainable fashion and lifestyle ideas. But obviously I’m not doing everything perfectly. If it’s not obvious it should be. I make mistakes, do things wrong, get mad or despondent. Please don’t compare these highlights to your real life. We’re all just doing our best when we can.
Have a good day. If you can’t have a good day, just have a day
Xx
